Get really good at making 5 or 6 different tasty dishes. People are often unable to exercise self-control when they are suddenly and unexpectedly required to use their willpower. In these experiments, researchers observed that people who were exerting willpower on one area – such as resisting tempting food – had less willpower left to use in another unrelated area – for example, when persisting to solve a difficult math problem. The best way is to choose something that that takes self-control and make it into a habit. One of the most well-known studies found that hungry students who were forced to resist the temptation of eating chocolate chip cookies did not perform as well on subsequent tests of focus and self-control as students who had not been asked to previously exercise restraint.
