Boone Hall Plantation was used for scenes of the Hamilton's summer house. It was known as Mont Royal Plantation for the movie. Noah’s house is definitely my favorite. We visited a few of the old slave cabins along the front of the property, those were pretty cool, but by far the best part of the tour was the "bus tour" that you catch in front of the butterfly cafe. -Julia. Gosling spent time rowing the Ashley River + taking woodworking classes (a table he built is actually featured in the film), while McAdams took ballet, etiquette, + southern accent coaching.

While this theater no longer shows movies, one of the most popular things it’s used for it displaying marriage proposals. Thanks for telling us about that. Boone Hall plantation is super pretty, but I was disappointed with the house tour. .-= beth´s last blog ..The best kind of camping =-. You can do a birdseye view and see the out-buildings and how they relate to the house. The shop keeper thought I was nuts when I begged for the chair. A true labor of love!

Robin– That’s interesting! I think I remember the little girl in Miracle on 31st Street wishing for such a home for Christmas. I’d have to choose between The Magnolia and the white house with blue shutters.

At Boone Hall Plantation we believe there is a responsibility to present the history of slavery in an accurate and educational manner each day in a way that pays honor and respect to that history and the progress of Black Americans. I love that old house….and the movie too! I even went to the King Street theater to see the movie when it was first released (this is the theater that Noah and Allie go on their double date). Martins Point Plantation, Private residence, Wadmalaw Island. I don’t think I ever realized they were different houses. Great post! The cottages are still on the property.

All of the interior shoots in the movie were filmed at this house. Anyone and everyone who is a history buff needs to visit this amazing plantation! The interior views of the Large home where he is in the Parlor, she comings down the stairs and The mother sits at the dining table are all “The Calhoun Mansion” at 16 meeting street, charleston, SC (I use to live in the house) It is now open for tours, and The long dining table is still in the house with the chairs.

THIS COMING FROM A GUY SAYING , THE MOVIE AT THE END BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES SEEING ALLIE NOT REMEMBERING AND THEN SEEING THEM ,END UP DYING IN THE NURSING HOME TOGETHER . It was used in a couple of other movies as well including “The In Crowd” and “O”. And that porch swing takes my breath away!

Old Village in Mount Pleasant set the scene for “Seabrook”, SC. UPDATE: Someone who studies the Sears kit houses tells me the dimensions are a bit larger and the floor plan is different than The Magnolia, but since the homeowners provided this information, I’m going to assume it was a version of the plan, at least. I’ve been to Boone Hall Plantation to see the house, I’ve gone boat riding in Cypress Garden swamps where the swan scene takes place, I walked down King Street the sight of the first date and laying in the road adventure. -Julia . The house shown above (in the movie and photo) is NOT a Sears Magnolia.
I think the DVD commentator was wrong.

I’ve been to Boone’s Hall Plantation several times (my dad was stationed in Charleston twice when I was growing up) and you are correct, the interiors look nothing like they do in the movie. You just can’t beat a view of the water, a big porch, and a glass of lemonade! The inside of Allie’s Family’s Summer Home was filmed at the Calhoun Mansion in Charleston, SC. Great movie just loved it….my daughter and I saw it at the theatre….after the movie we used the ladies room, we could tell by all the red noses who had come from seeing The Notebook….
